Neighborhood Ministries

Neighborhood Ministries

The mission of Neighborhood Ministries is to share the love of Jesus Christ with the community by providing a safe, recreational and spiritual experience for students in kindergarten through twelfth grade.

During the school year, approximately 100 students are picked up from school and brought to our campus for homework help, spiritual development, and mentoring. For seven weeks during the summer, Neighborhood Ministries also offers Outreach Florida to students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Both programs are free of charge to participants, thanks to grants and other funding.

Neighborhood Ministries History

1989

Neighborhood Ministries began as the “Sandwich Club.” After school on Wednesday afternoons, children who lived nearby came to the church after school for a sandwich.

1999

The outreach became  Neighborhood Ministries. “Clubhouse” was offered five days per week during the school year to students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Participants were picked up from neighboring schools and brought to the church for a snack, homework help, and spiritual guidance.

2003

Because of the popularity of Clubhouse, the ministry expanded to include “Club Christ” for students in sixth through twelfth grade. The objective was to keep middle and high school students off the streets and in a safe environment during the hours when teenagers are most likely to succumb to peer pressure, drugs, and alcohol.

2005

With grants and other funding, “Outreach Florida” began for kindergarten through fifth-grade students during the summer. The Polk County Summer Feeding Program provides a fully-balanced breakfast and lunch for each child during this seven-week, full-day program.

2018

54 children participated in Outreach Florida during the summer of 2018. 89 students from 20 different schools participated in the afterschool ministry and completed more than 1,600 hours of community service.
