PEACE is the Polk Ecumenical Action Council for Empowerment

PEACE is a congregation-based direct-action organization founded in 2001 that engages diverse, Polk County congregations in doing justice by identifying the root causes of community problems and taking action.

PEACE is a multiracial, interdenominational, non partisan 501(c)3 nonprofit. We are devoted to identifying problems facing the community of Polk County. We are a direct action organization that proposes policy solutions to public officials in order to get to the root causes of community problems.

First United Methodist is proud to join with more than 20 other congregations in Polk to follow the biblical call to do justice.

Rethinking Justice Special Meeting
August 5, 2021, 6:30-8pm

Rethinking Justice is a special meeting with our District Superintendents, PEACE and other DART network affiliates in the Gulf Central District. Join us as we learn how to live more fully into the command to do justly and live love out loud. DART organizations (like PEACE in Polk County) teach leaders in congregations how to advocate for justice on issues right where they live: transportation, mental health, diverting youth from incarceration for minor non-violent offenses. The benefit to churches is helping their leaders learn the art of engaging in the public discourse on critical issues that affect their neighbors.
