Reducing Social Isolation and Loneliness Through Music

Vicky Pitner   -

This past Monday, The Memory Ministry Choir debuted an inaugural holiday concert! The morning started with pianist, Elaine Clemons and Karen Buie’s breathtaking and heartfelt solo of “Oh Holy Night!” and the morning could not have been more perfect.

Thirteen families from our Memory Café came together, sharing Christmas carols stored in their hearts and minds for over 60 or 70 years! Because long term memories remain with us the longest, song books were barely even necessary.

Music offers a way for people to feel connected in ways that are enjoyable and fosters a sense of belonging. Musical interactions can provide a connection when conversations may no longer be meaningful when living with dementia.

We look forward to next year when we offer “The First Annual Holiday Concert from our Memory Café Choir!”
