Affirmations for Families Living with Dementia
Affirmations are simply positive statements that can help re-wire our brains and break negative thought patterns, reduce stress and decrease feelings of self-doubt. Feeling appreciated when supporting someone living with memory loss can sometimes be a challenge, and often the person with memory loss may not be able to express gratitude for all the support you provide.
This of course is unintentional, but due to cognitive decline, the person may loose the capacity to show empathy or appreciation others may do for them. However, the need to feel appreciated is important and necessary for boosting self-esteem, confidence and build resilience.
Affirmation statements is a way that family members can stay motivated, inspired and live with more optimism throughout the day. An affirmation statement can be read, or simply verbalizing outlaid to yourself. An affirming statement can be said any time of day, during any situation, and is a wonderful replacement for negative thoughts sneak in unexpectedly.
Managing and reframing thought patterns can change negative behaviors and cultivate new healthier behaviors. Below are simple affirmations to reinforce your capabilities.
This is tough but I am too.
I do not have to be perfect to be amazing
I will take time to care for myself today
I will work on one task at a time
I am making a difference everyday
God’s power works best in my weakness. 2 Corinthians 12:9
My faith makes me whole in spirit, soul, and body
