What’s in Your Basket? Devotional Guide

Weekly Text: Matthew 14:13-21

Monday: Jesus, upon hearing about John the Baptist’s death, seeks solitude but is met with a crowd. His compassion for their needs drives him to respond, even in his grief. How does Jesus’ compassion challenge your understanding of how to respond to others in need? In what areas of your life do you find it difficult to show compassion?

Tuesday: The disciples see the crowd’s needs but focus on the scarcity of resources. Jesus, however, invites them to reconsider their perspective. Have you ever felt overwhelmed by a situation where you saw no solution? How did you respond? What can we learn from Jesus about facing seemingly impossible situations?

Wednesday: The disciples present their limited resources to Jesus. This act of bringing what they have is crucial to the miracle that follows. What “five loaves and two fish” do you have in your life that you can bring to Jesus? How can we encourage each other to bring our offerings to God?

Thursday: Jesus takes the loaves and fish, gives thanks, and breaks them. This act of gratitude precedes the miracle. How does gratitude change your perspective on what you have? Have you witnessed a situation where God multiplied what was offered? Share your story.

Friday: Not only are the people fed, but there are leftovers—demonstrating God’s abundant provision. Jesus satisfies both physical and spiritual hunger. What does this passage teach us about God’s ability to provide for our needs? How can we share the abundance we’ve received with others?
