The LOVE of Christmas Devotional Guide

Rev. Dr. Charley Reeb   -

Monday: Read Luke 1:13-17. Consider the story of Zechariah and Elizabeth, a couple who had longed for a child. Despite their old age, God’s unfailing love fulfilled their prayers through the birth of John the Baptist. Reflect on how God’s love can bring hope and fulfillment to even the seemingly impossible situations in our lives. Can you give an example from your own life? Action: Write down a prayer expressing your deepest desires to God, acknowledging His love and surrendering your hopes and dreams to Him.

Tuesday: Luke 1:26-38. Reflect on Mary’s response to the angel’s announcement of her miraculous conception. Despite the potential challenges and societal expectations, Mary humbly accepted God’s love and willingly surrendered to His plan. Consider how Mary’s example can inspire us to trust and embrace God’s love in our own lives. Action: Spend time in quiet reflection, asking God to reveal His plans for your life. Listen attentively and journal any impressions or thoughts that come to mind.

Wednesday: Read Luke 1:26-38; Luke 2:1-7. Contemplate the immense love demonstrated by God through the incarnation of Jesus Christ. Reflect on the humility and sacrifice of God becoming human to dwell among us. Ponder the significance of the stable as the birthplace of the Savior and the example of humility it sets for us. Take a moment to visit a nativity scene or set up a simple one in your home. Action: Reflect on the humble circumstances surrounding Jesus’ birth and offer a prayer of gratitude for God’s immense love.

Thursday: Read Luke 1:46-55. Meditate on Mary’s song of praise, known as the Magnificat. Consider the depth of Mary’s understanding of God’s love and faithfulness as she proclaims His greatness. Reflect on how you can also declare God’s love and faithfulness in your own life and share it with others. Action: Write a letter or message to someone, sharing how God’s love and faithfulness have impacted your life. Encourage them with your testimony and offer words of hope and love.

Friday: As we delve into the Christmas story through the lens of Luke 1, may we be reminded of the incredible love of God that was made manifest through the birth of Jesus Christ. Let us embrace and experience this love in our own lives, trusting in God’s faithfulness and sharing His love with others. May the story of Christmas inspire us to live lives rooted in love, just as God has loved us. Action: Pick an ornament that reminds you of God’s love in Christ and display throughout the year in your home.
