Fill the Table
Fighting Food Insecurity in Florida
Fill the Table is an initiative launched in July 2020 by The Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church. Through a network of statewide partnerships and collaboration, our goal is to feed 3 million Floridians by September 2021. Join us as we #FillTheTable to fight food insecurity through a lens of justice and mercy.
First United Methodist Church is partnering with multiple agencies through several avenues to join in this mission. For more information on any of these initiatives, contact Forrest White, Director of Missions.
Neighborhood Ministries Holiday Food Collection – November 1
Neighborhood Ministries is once again collecting food to distribute to families during the holiday season. The list below are the items that will most help our families prepare a holiday meal. If you would also like to donate a grocery gift card (Publix, Aldi, Walmart etc.) these are also accepted to help families purchase fresh items to accompany their meal.
All donations can be dropped off Sunday, November 1 from 9am-1pm. Donations will be collected at the sliding doors of the F-Building on the East side of the church.
If you are unable to drop off at this time or have any questions please contact Stephanie Keen in the Neighborhood Ministries office. firstname.lastname@example.org or 863-686-0855
Food and Children’s Shoes Collection – November 8
Our next collection day for our migrant ministry partners – Mulberry UMC Food Pantry and Called to Serve Farmworkers -will be Sunday, November 8, from 1-4 pm at the Mission Depot on the Vistabula St side of the church.
We will also be collecting NEW or very gently used children’s shoes as part of our November 8 collection.
We will also collect food at the Mission Depot on December 13.
Fall Gleaning Season is Here!
We will join our friends from Society of St. Andrew for gleaning this Fall. SoSA partners with farmers around the state to gather produce for feeding ministries around the state. To sign up to glean Saturday or at any time, you must sign up here.
After you are registered, you’ll enter your email address and name on subsequent visits and go straight to the Florida gleaning calendar to sign up. SoSA requires all volunteers to sign up through this system.
Gleaning is rooted in Old Testament scripture: “When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Do not go over your vineyard a second time or pick up the grapes that have fallen. Leave them for the poor and the foreigner. I am the LORD your God” (Leviticus 19:9–10).
