Lay
Leadership 2010

HOW OUR CHURCH LEADERSHIP IS CHOSEN
Every year in the fall our church Lay
Leadership committee meets to nominate church members for a wide variety
of administrative and ministry area positions. This committee works
diligently and prayerfully over several weeks to discern a good mix of
people for every committee. In nominating members of the Lay Leadership
committee itself, there is a special emphasis on diversity as to age,
worship service attended and groups of people each person knows in order
to get the widest knowledge of potential church leaders.
The Lay Leadership committee presents a slate of nominations at the fall
meeting of our church’s annual Charge Conference. At that time all
church leaders for the coming year (both newly-nominated and returning
leadership) are elected by the voting members of the Charge Conference,
who are all lay members of our church.
Church committee members normally serve for three years, after which
they roll off the committee. For example, in January 2010 the members
of the Class of 2012 began their terms of service, and the members of
the Class of 2009 rolled off the committees. This keeps a constant
influx of new people, new ideas and new energy in all of our leadership
positions.
Church members interested in serving on a particular committee are
welcome to communicate that interest to the Lay Leadership committee,
click email link below. There are usually many more prospective
nominees than there are openings on each committee, so not everyone can
be asked to serve in an official capacity. But all church members are
encouraged to volunteer their time and talents for the work of the
ministries in which they are interested.
