In September of 2007, Circle 16, a night time circle of First United Methodist Church chose the Prayers and Squares ministry to be their “identity.”

By November, seven quilts were ready for delivery to those who need encouragement and prayer.  The quilts are generally 4 x 4.  They are perfect for children, youth and adults.   Why this size?  The ideal prayer quilt is big enough to cover up with, but not so long it will get caught under a wheelchair or a hospital bed rail. It is small enough to transport easily, but big enough to hold all those "knots of prayer" and to snuggle under.  They are kept ready to “tie” the knots after worship services, with prayers specifically for the recipient.
