Information for the
COMMUNITY

New Information from the Master Planner:
The Children’s Ministries building setback from Lake Morton Drive has
been increased to 30 feet which matches the setback for the Junior
League (Sorosis) building. The setback to this building from Vistabula
Street is set at 22.5 feet which will conform to the existing zoning
requirement for a building of the height as proposed.
Setbacks for the Phase III Gymnasium addition have been set at the 22.5
foot minimum per the zoning requirement.
Parking east of the existing “F” Building has been reconfigured to
discourage cut through traffic across the church property. Along with
this reconfiguration this one bay of parking will be paved and striped
for accessible/senior parking.
The possible parking deck previously shown at the extreme east end of
the Church property has been moved to be adjacent to the church
buildings as discussed in various of the community and church meetings.
Note that as discussed this parking deck is only a remote possibility
that would become feasible or necessary if parking could not be
accommodated in some other way.
The Church is in the process of building a study model of the proposed
master plan to better display the possible building massing.
What Is a Long Range Master Plan?
First United Methodist Church desires to
create a Master Plan for its church campus that will, over a fifteen
year horizon, plan for the facilities needed to meet the anticipated
growth trajectory and ministry vision of the church. Critical
components of the Master Plan is the definition of the buildings needed,
the footprint and mass they require, the appearance and building
standards for the construction of those buildings over phases, and the
successful integration of the buildings with the surrounding community.
To facilitate the gathering of data and to shepherd the development of
the Master Plan, a Long Range Planning Committee was established in
January 2008.

Community Liaison
- Gail LaSarso
First
United Methodist Church wants to continue to develop a vital
relationship with our community and specifically our residential
neighbors. Just as we want neighborhood support of our activities and
Master Plan, we also want to reciprocate by being an active participant
in the neighborhood’s activities and plans.
Following the December 2010 historic meeting with our neighbors, the
Long-Range Planning Committee accepted the invitation of the East Lake
Morton Property Owners Association to send a representative to their
association meetings. Gail LaSarso, who lives in the neighborhood, has
agreed to serve in this capacity. She will also attend the Garden
District Association meetings.

An Important Statement to
Prospective Bidders & Builders
Thank you for
interest in submitting bids on one or more phases of this project. A
formal Request for Proposal (RFP) will be publicly posted on this site
as each phase becomes funded and available for bid.
We do not anticipate the release of any RFPs prior to April 1, 2011.
We suggest that interested bidders refrain from calling the church
office and instead monitor this site for updates as they are published.
