Worship Plus 2
A PASTOR'S CHALLENGE



From "First News" dated August 29, 2007:
Several weeks ago in the worship service, I noted that we are going to be a Worship Plus 2 church. 

By this I mean that worship will be our primary commitment as disciples of Jesus Christ. We gather in worship to give thanks to God for God’s love and grace.  We hear and respond to the word of God through prayer, music and preaching. We are touched by the presence of God in worship and we head out into the world to share God’s love and grace. Worship is the time when we, as the body of Christ, are unified in the joyful and necessary act of praise. Worship is our foundational life.

Secondly, we need to grow in our relationship with Christ. We each need to enrich and develop our faith. This might mean being in a Sunday School class or a small group. You can grow in faith by being involved in Bible study or a prayer group. Each of us needs to do at least one thing to deepen our faith.

Finally, we each need to do something for others. You might choose to volunteer as a tutor for neighborhood ministries or you may help in the clothes closet. You may be called to teach a class or lead a small group or you might help serve the meal at Phoenix on Wednesday nights. There are many ways you can serve and help others.

Worship Plus 2 simply means having a firm commitment to be a part of our worshiping community, to do one thing which will help you grow in your faith and to do one thing which will help others. I pray that you make this simple yet powerful, even life changing commitment to these standards.
